The Desert Amateur

December 3-4, 2022

🏁Final: Saguaro Amateur Series – Desert Amateur from Ak-Chin Southern Dunes GC in Maricopa, Arizona. As a popular tournament host and common site of PGA Tour Q-School in Arizona, Ak-Chin Southern Dunes attracted a strong field of primarily collegiate players. More than a dozen NW players were in the field battling unusually wet desert conditions. Rain shortened the event from a scheduled 54-hole event to 36 holes.

Dalton Dean of Lynnwood, Washington posted rounds of 67-68 for a -9 total and a two-stroke margin of victory over international competitors from Spain and Mexico. Dean made 11 birdies and one eagle in 36 holes.

In 2022, Dean’s made headlines at NW Golf Report in a wide variety of events. Dean opened the year dominating the annual Polar Bear event at Dungeness, posted an opening round of 63 in the PNW PGA Northwest Open and racked up collegiate wins for Bellevue College. Dean recently signed with the Idaho Vandals to continue his college golf career.

Additional top 15 finishes for NW players included mid-amateur Jake Koppenberg of Bellingham, WA in 4th and Reese Jorgensen of Mukilteo, WA in t11.
