WJGA State Match Play
March 24-26, 2023
🏁Final: WJGA State Match Play from Sunland GC in Sequim, Washington. Washington junior golf’s version of March Madness featured full fields battling it out for match play supremacy. The tournament featured an 18-hole stroke play qualifier with the top 16 boys and top 16 girls each advancing to the championship match play bracket. The four rounds of match play were contested over only two days.
Two middle schoolers from the class of 2027 ultimately won the boys and girls titles over primarily older, high school competition.
In the girls’ division, Chanyoung Park of Mill Creek, WA won the title with a 2&1 championship match victory. Park qualified as the 5-seed for match play and only played the 18th hole once in her four matches. Park, from the high school class of 2027, was a strong competitor in WJGA in 2022 recording three sub-district wins and a District 1 Championship victory.
