IMG Academy Junior World Qualifying
March 12, 2023
🏁Final: IMG Academy Junior World Qualifying staged by WJGA at The Classic GC in Spanaway, Washington. 18-hole qualifier featured 98 boys playing for 4 qualifying spots and 32 girls playing for 4 qualifying spots to the famed Junior World Championships staged in July. This year’s qualifier was played significantly earlier in the season to better allow for travel arrangements.
In the boys division, top honors went to Owen Price of University Place and Zachary Miller of Buckley with -1 rounds of 70. 2022 highlights for Price included winning the WJGA State Match Play and WJGA District 3 titles. Zachary Miller also advanced from this same qualifier last year. Miller competed at Torrey Pines in 2022 and earned qualifying medalist honors as part of a duo for the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball. Also advancing to Junior World were Wyatt Brownell of Burlington and Bradley Mulder of Spokane.
Top girls finishers
Bellevue, Washington is a strong source of current girls junior golf talent. Emma Wong, Tatum Otto and Claire Chang, all from Bellevue, advanced to Junior World in the girls’ division. Kaitlin Ojendyk of Newcastle, bordering Bellevue, earned the final qualifying spot. Angela Zhang of Bellevue, the 2022 WJGA Player of the Year and Washington Women’s Amateur champion, shared medalist honors at 75. Zhang played for WJGA performance points only as she is not yet at the qualifying age of 15 for Junior World’s oldest age division.
